Aurora, Minn. (June 12, 2017) – The learning curve was steep and the weekend was not without challenges, but the Scheuring Speed Sports team exceeded all expectations in our first Pro MOD UTV race with TORC – The Off Road Championship series.
Coming into the event the team was confident in the performance of our U.S. Air Force/AMSOIL/Can-Am Maverick X-3 but without ever having turned a lap on a full-sized TORC track or raced side-by-side other competitors, did not have a true sense of how we would fit in the mix. With 26 Pro MOD drivers on hand the first goal was qualifying for one of 20 spots in the main event. Team fabricator-turned driver Elliot Burns made quick improvements behind the wheel, dropping three seconds off his lap times from practice to qualifying, easily advancing to the final in the 16th starting position.
At the drop of the green flag Burns made quick work of several competitors and was running in the seventh spot late in the race. Unfortunately, the car began to overheat during the final laps, going into limp mode which actually allowed Burns to finish the race, holding on to a very respectable ninth place finish.
The team was excited to get back on track Sunday to capitalize on everything we learned in the maiden voyage. However, a severe storm rolled through the area in the morning, causing damage to several team transporters and the scoring facility, forcing the round to be postponed.
Next up is the spring race at The Big House in Crandon, Wisconsin on June 24-25.
