The annual pre-season pilgrimage to the Klim Compound in Aurora, Minnesota has begun and with it comes the debut of new gear, new team colors and the first hints of who is really going to be a contender when the season opens in just three weeks. While there are still a number of riders and teams waiting on parts to complete their new sled builds, the mid-December start to the season feels like the best opening timeline the sport has ever had.

Recent temps have allowed for almost all of the practice tracks to at least get a start on snowmaking, with West Fargo also up and running and ERX to follow soon. The 286 Series for youth riders kicks off this weekend and by the time round one of the ISOC national tour opens on December 16, the entire cast of characters should be clicking on all cylinders.

The KC Motorsports team always unveils a unique sled wrap for pre-season. Evan Christian’s buggy is a bit more subdued this year with a monochrome black on silver package.
Aurora life is a 24/7 affair for Pro title contender Hunter Patenaude who lives at the facility where he rides and wrenches.
Pro Snowbike winner Troy Horbaty is taking on a new challenge this season. With the bikes being scaled back to three events, Horbaty has his sights set on making a name for himself in one of the premier sled divisions. It is yet to be determined if that will be Sport, Lites or Pro, but you can count on seeing big progression from him throughout the year.
This will be season number three in the Pro class for Cole Cottew. He’s shown the speed to challenge for a podium and has style for days but this will be a critical year to make it all count week in and week out.
The Green Mountain Racing team is stepping up with a squad of Scandinavian racers. While led by veteran Pro racer Aki Pihlaja, it was their trio of Lites riders who were burning the most laps while we were up north.

Nate LaValley has been in Aurora almost year ’round working at Scheuring Speed Sports, helping with the Champ Off-Road team and overseeing snowmaking. The likable rider from Hermanton, MN is also moving up to the Sport class this season after collecting his first Sport Lite podium in 2022.
