A tentative schedule for the 2021 AMSOIL Championship Snocross tour was unveiled recently during a meeting of snowmobile manufacturers race team directors and one professional team representing each participating brand.
While some details still need to be worked out in regard to rounds two and four it is almost certain that the season will get underway on January 8-9 at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota. Rounds two and three will also take place in January with the second national weekend being held at the fairgrounds in West Fargo, North Dakota or a similar fairground location in Dubuque, Iowa.
Round three will take place at the wildly popular Days of ’76 rodeo grounds in Deadwood, South Dakota. Depending on which location hosts round two, the alternate city will host round four, so either West Fargo or Dubuque.
From there, the tour heads east to New York. Should the casino location in New York be restricted on spectator capacity, there is a plan B to go to New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire.
Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota is slated to host round six on the first weekend in March. Should Canterbury remain under a limited capacity order, it is likely the series would stay in the Twin Cities metro with a return to ERX.
One big shakeup will see the traditional season-ending round in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin move back one spot on the schedule and no longer serve as the Grand Finale. The season will close later than it has in recent history at what promised to be a great venue in 2020 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
It has been the concensus of all parties that having any schedule in place, especially one that will include 16 rounds, 17 for the Pros, is a huge step forward. The delayed start is a welcome change for many that we have talked to but will also mean a condensed race season.
While we will wait for ISOC to announce an official schedule, emails that we have seen show a pattern of two weekend on and one weekend off for most of the season with a slight change in February to accommodate the stand alone Grand Prix de Valcourt, which many of the Ski-Doo factory teams are obligated to attend.
