Colby Crapo, one of the most colorful characters in professional snocross, has announced his retirement from the sport. Crapo rose to prominence on the AMSOIL Championship Snocross tour as a title contending Pro Lite racer with the Leighton Motorsports team. Never one to hide his emotions, Crapo raced with a similar style always at the ragged edge of his equipment and abilities and always with a smile.
Crapo’s retirement follows a career milestone in 2017 when he won the CSRA Pro Open Championship with Hubert Motorsports, the Canadian team which he had become an integral part of the last four seasons.
Here is the official release from the team:
Huber Motorsports is officially announcing that Colby Crapo #999 has decided to retire from Professional Snocross racing. Colby has been racing Snocross for 16 years, racing in the Mid-West Racing series, ISOC and CSRA. Colby won the 2009 MWR Pro High Points Championship and also the 2017 CSRA Pro Open Championship.
Colby has ridden for Polaris, Ski-doo and Arctic Cat throughout his racing career. He has been racing for and associated with Huber Motorsports for the past 4 years, which includes 1 year with Boss racing. Colby also raced 3 years for Leighton Motorsports and also as a privateer in the early days of his racing career.
“We are going to miss Colby, with his hard work attitude, dedication and his humor around the race shop and trailer. Colby, his wife Ony and the Crapo family have become very close friends and like family” said Gerhart Huber.
Colby is moving on and getting more actively involved in the family farming business with his wife Ony. They are also both excited with the anticipated arrival of their 1st child in January 2018.
“I truly cannot express how grateful I am for all of the people who have helped me over my racing career. I have met some of the most amazing people who will now be family and friends for the rest of my life. This has been one hell of a journey and I’ll have some incredible memories. Thanks again to everyone who has helped me throughout my career, none of it would have been possible without all of you!
Cheers! # 999”
From all of us at Huber Motorsports, we want to wish Colby (The Colonel ) all the best in life’s adventures.
