Round 2 of the 2020 BBXC series is shaping up to exceed last season’s visit to Byron Motorsports Park in Byron, Illinois, where local hotshoe Tanner Whipple defended his turf upending series champ Nathan Ferderer.

Whipple and fellow Illini Colt Converse, Matt McDonald, Austin Wells and Jarred Hall will all be looking to repeat their strong performances when the series resumes on July 19 at the second annual Midwest Meltdown presented by Checkpoint Off-Road. Round 1 winner Ferderer is the odds-on favorite any time he shows up and it is likely that Minnesota podium finishers Logan Kittock and Nick Swenson will have a say in the outcome.

L to R: Ferderer, Whipple and Converse battled the heat, dust and 18 other combatants to claim the big checks in 2019.

To further increase the drama surrounding the $1,500 AA payout, there has been talk that rising star and two-time Greg Moss Memorial trophy winner Cody Barnes will be available to return to his roots on a factory Beta, while long-time GNCC contender Chris Bach has indicated he will be traveling from Indiana to make his second BBXC start. Bach, was the winner at the series opener in 2019, showing he still has something in the tank.

The event in Byron will be co-sanctioned by the WFO series, as well as AMA District 17. Local promoter Ryan Moss and the Forest City Riders will be hosting a Sprint Enduro at the facility on Saturday, with all BBXC racing taking place on Sunday.

Wisconsin legend JD Friebel pulled the holeshot on the AA heavyweights in 2019 and with no national enduro on the calendar may be back for another run.

The WFO series runs a slightly different class lineup than traditional BBXC races, however, all riders competing for BBXC season championships will be awarded points based on their specific class. All riders wanting to earn BBXC points will need to indicate there class at sign-up.

Amateur riders competing for a season championship must compete in 4 of the 5 scheduled rounds. Pro/AA riders competing for the $1,500 year-end payout must compete in all 5 rounds and finish in the top 5.
